SimLab: Dual Absorption Kinetics
Extravascular administered drugs may exhibit complex plasma profiles showing more
than one local maximum (peak). This is caused by the fact that the passage along
the gastrointestinal tract takes time (lag time) and/or different rates of absorption
at different locations within the gastrointestinal tract. This effect can be observed
with both oral and intranasal formulations. The SimLab Excel application was developed
in close collaboration with University Hospital in Maastricht for the modeling of the dual
absorption profile observed with intranasal administered midazolam. Models can be
simulated and/or fitted. Models can also be used in Monte Carlo simulations.
